Grayson Brown tells the story of the boat the disciples were in caught in a storm in the early morning hours. They see a figure in the distance and think it is a ghost. It is Jesus – who says to them “Take courage…do not be afraid.” Once they recognize that it is the Lord, Peter gets out of the boat and starts walking on the water himself. But then doubt sets in and he begins to sink. As Grayson says, at that moment of panic Peter doesn’t worry about the perfect prayer, he just shouts “Jesus , help me.” Jesus’ reaction is “Oh, ye of little faith…”
The story shows us that the people around Jesus are just like you and me. We believe at first and then doubt sets in. We have to step out in faith and not let the world convince us that we can’t do it.
