Catholic Church and Happiness

Dr. Kaczor explains the four levels of happiness proposed by Robert Spitzer, SJ.
He explains each level, giving the positive aspects and the drawbacks of each.

Level 1: Bodily pleasure. This can lead to addiction. We all want more.

Level 2: Being better than others in competition. We achieve a certain level of success and then get used to it. We desire a higher level. Doesn’t really satisfy us.

Level 3: Loving and serving other human beings. Lots of advantages and endless opportunities. Happiness is love.

Level 4: Transcendent Happiness . We desire love of God – love of perfect truth, perfect goodness and perfect love.

The Catholic Church teaches us to choose the higher levels of 3 and 4. Love God and love your neighbor. This is a priority.
