Mike the conversation centers on the death penalty. Sr. Helen was awakened to the issues of social justice early in her religious life, but one experience changed her forever. This event became the cornerstone of her book Dead Man Walking, as you may know. She tells a moving story of a father whose son was killed and his attitude toward the man who did it. Sr. Helen explains carefully the “culture of life” and how Christian and so like Christ this is. Toward the end of the interview, she explains how we can decide our own response to this complex problem in light of the Gospel.
