Struck by God: Women

Some women don’t like St. Paul because of his attitude toward women. In this program, Fr. Mike makes a case for St. Paul. He says that we need to place St. Paul within the culture of his time. Women were regarded differently in the Jewish and in the Roman communities. Paul challenged men to respect their wives as their own bodies. (Ephesians, Colossians, Galatians).

Fr. Mike lists all the women who are named in the letters of Paul: Chloe, Phoebe, Doria, Lydia…The list goes on. Paul also urges the communities to care especially for the widows.

In the second half of the program, Fr. Mike challenges our imagination with such questions as : Had Paul been married? Was it Paul or other writers who spoke negatively of women? Did Paul try to continue Jesus’ preaching of respect for women?
