How do you deal with anger? Do you suppress it, express it or let it turn to violence? In this interview, Fr. Mike discusses with Dr. Mel Palmer, a professional counselor, what effect anger has on us and how we can deal with it. They look at the gospel of Mark and the times that Jesus was angry. There is righteous anger and then emotional anger that leads to negative actions. They discuss fermented anger and how this will come out later in ways we may not want it to do. Dr. Mel offers one great piece of advice: “Change the value of the information you receive in order to change your emotions.” He tells stories of how to achieve this. They also explore fear, guilt and shame and how to deal with these emotions. Fr. Mike asks Dr. Mel how to deal with a woman who had an abortion years ago and is still feeling the shame of it.
