In this segment of Catholic Insights, Fr. Mike and Dr. Ruth discuss Purgatory and why Catholics believe in this, even though it is not based on scripture. Dr. Ruth points out that Jesus talked about heaven and hell, but never purgatory. Fr. Mike points to the book of 2 Maccabees where the people pray for the soldier who has died with a good luck charm around his neck. He goes on to explain why having a place like Purgatory makes logical sense.
They then talk about the priesthood in the Catholic Church. Dr. Ruth questions why it is necessary. Fr. Mike quotes from the New Testament to justify the priesthood, especially with regard to the sacraments.
